Other school dates are listed on the Dates page.
Attendance & Absence
Under Section 36 of the Education Act 1944, parents of children of compulsory school age are required to ensure that their child receives full-time education. Parents therefore, are primarily responsible for their child’s attendance at school. Any failure in this duty could lead to prosecution.
It is the school’s responsibility to support attendance, record it and follow up any problems leading to non-attendance.
Parental responsibility however, extends beyond securing regular school attendance. Parents should ensure that their children arrive at school on time, properly dressed and in a fit condition to learn. This is considered as a partnership process and means instilling in children a respect for education and for those who deliver it. Children need to observe the school’s code of conduct and have it reinforced at home.
We are required to monitor attendance and absence very closely. It is a legal requirement for all parents to inform us in writing of the reason for your child’s absence even if you have telephoned the school. Where a child is ill, the school should be notified of the nature of that illness and the possible length of any absence.
Parents must not send any child who is unwell to school.
Click here for information on Attendance, Punctuality and Leave of Absence.
Adverse Weather
In adverse whether (e.g. snow affecting travelling conditions), the school may be closed for safety.
If this is the case, the school closure will be announced on Peak FM radio (107.4 & 102 FM).
Please refrain from telephoning the school so that the line is kept clear for emergency calls.
School Uniform
PE
Pupils should have their PE kits in school from Monday to Friday, as PE lessons may take place on any day to take advantage of good weather.
Year 5 swimming lessons take place on Tuesdays.
Click here for details of the recommended PE kit.
Lost Property
Parents and children are able to view lost property at any time.
Watches and jewellery are a particular problem. They need to be labelled with your child’s name if at all possible.
Jewellery should be kept to a minimum and should not worn to school on days when P.E and Games are taking place.
School Meals
It is possible to purchase a cooked meal or sandwiches or to bring a packed lunch, all of which are eaten in the school hall under supervision. The lunch consists of two courses with a choice of main or vegetarian meal, vegetables or salad and potatoes, pasta etc. Pudding is a choice of fresh fruit or pudding of the day. For those children who prefer a lighter meal there is provision of a sandwich with salad plus a choice of pudding.
School lunches cost just £1.85 per day (£9.25 per full week).
Dinner money cheques should be made payable to '
Derbyshire County Council'.
Visit the The My School Lunch (Derbyshire) website for:
If you wish to change from school dinners to sandwiches or vice versa, it is necessary to give a half terms’ notice.
The school has a dedicated team of Midday Supervisors, which is responsible for the welfare of the children at lunchtime. Their task is not an easy one. Parents can help significantly, by promoting positive attitudes towards their work.
Snacks
We pride ourselves on being a Health Promoting School and are required to educate children on how to maintain healthy lifestyles.
We therefore do not allow the children to eat snacks of crisps, cakes, biscuits, pastries, etc. at playtime. Instead please give your child a healthy snack such as a cereal bar or fruit.
Payments to School
For school meals, payment should be by cheque payable to 'Derbyshire County Council' or in cash in a labelled envelope, and brought to school on Monday (or the first day of attendance) each week.
All other payments e.g. visits, sales, may be made in cash or by cheque payable to 'Newbold Church School'.
