Pupils are expected to behave sensibly and safely when travelling to and from school.

Please do not allow your child to linger at the top of the school path on Cranborne Road.

The school cannot take responsibility for the safety of pupils off school premises, or on school premises on school days before 08:45 or after being dismissed at the end of the school day or school club.

School Travel Plan

The school has developed a travel plan to:-

• Improve road safety

• Encourage healthier lifestyles

• Promote greener methods of travel

• Minimise traffic congestion near to the school

By addressing three main concerns:-

• To improve safety around the immediate school environment.

• To increase the number of children travelling to and from school in an eco-friendly way.

• To try to alleviate some of the problems caused around the school area at drop-off and pick-up times.

By Foot

Pupils are encouraged to walk to school.

Please -

• Practise the Green Cross Code with your child.

• Use the 'lollipop' school crossing patrol to cross St Johns Road by the Cranborne Road junction: 08:30 - 09:00 before school and 15:15 - 15:50 after school.

• Dogs are not permitted on the school grounds for health and safety reasons.

By Bicycle

Pupils are permitted to cycle to school.

Please -

• Ensure that your child wears a cycle helmet and bright/reflective clothing.

• Ensure that that their cycle is in a safe, roadworthy condition and it must, in the winter months, have lights.

• Read The Highway Code with your child, especially the Cyclists section.

• Ensure that your child alights outside the school grounds on Cranborne Road as, for safety reasons cycling, scooting and skating are not permitted on the school path, yard or playgrounds.

The school encourages children to receive cycle training, and may host cycle training sessions.

The school and cycling instructors cannot take responsibility for the safety of pupils who choose to cycle, regardless of whether they have attained a cycle training certificate.

By Car

Pupils are encouraged to walk to school.

Please -

• Do not park or turn in the school car park, which is reserved solely for the use of staff.

• Do not park or stop (to drop off) on school zigzag road markings as it is against the law.

  Keep the Zig-Zags Clear! leaflet.

• Take care on Cranborne Road, which is narrow and often becomes busy with cars, cycles, pedestrians and buses at the start and end of the school day.

To Out of School Club

Leprechauns collecting children from school take them safely to the after school club (at Dunston School) by foot or by car.
