Pupil Welfare

Welfare Policy

Pastoral Care

The pastoral care of pupils involves all staff at our school. Our organisation ensures that a child is known not just to his/her class teacher but also to the teaching team. There is varied contact with all teaching and non-teaching staff, secretarial, Educational Care Officers, care taking and kitchen staff.

Medical Inspection

The school nurse comes into school at regular intervals.
Please see the Extended Schools page for dates when you are welcome to meet the School Community Nurse or a representative from the Parent Partnership.

The school doctor can see any child who may have a problem.

Dental inspections take place and parents are informed of the results. Treatment is provided at the health centre or, if parents prefer, their own dentist.

Head Lice

To prevent head lice, the school strongly recommends that parents/carers follow the advice given on the Head Lice – Hints & Tips page.

Medication

It is our policy not to administer any medication. If your child requires medication at any time during the school day, we would ask you as parents, to come into school and administer it personally.

Your child should not bring medicines of any sort into school. The exception is reliever inhalers, which should be given to the class teacher for safekeeping.

First Aid

All the teaching staff have been trained in first aid.

There are two first aid kits in the school, one in the infant department and the other in the juniors.

We are not allowed to use creams or sprays when dealing with cuts and grazes and rarely use plasters due to the allergic reactions they can cause (you will be asked about this as your child enters school). We treat injuries of this nature with an antiseptic first aid wipe.

We would never attempt to remove splinters or grit from the skin, or foreign bodies from the eye.

In the case of more serious injuries, a suspected fracture for example, school would contact the parent or guardian or arrange for the child to be taken to a hospital for medical examination.

Should your child be unwell at school we would contact the parent or guardian in order to come and collect the child.

Child Protection

Parents should be aware that the school is required to take any responsible action to ensure the safety of its pupils. In cases where the school has reason to be concerned that a child may be subjected to ill treatment, neglected or other forms of abuse, the Headteacher is obliged to follow the Child Protection procedures established by the Derbyshire Area Child Protection Committee and inform Social Services of the concern.

Internet Safety

If you or your child uses networking websites like Facebook, please use the privacy settings to prevent child predators accessing your pages.
Please remember that information such as photos, email addresses, contact details, home and school addresses could be dangerous in the wrong hands, so care should be taken when posting such information to ensure that you have control over who can access it on the internet.
